Requesting an Inspection - Carolina Shores POA

We are all interested in maintaining the beauty of our neighborhood and the value of our homes. As part of the services of the POA, inspections may be requested by any member in good standing to resolve any questions or perceived violations of the Carolina Shores regulations. Examples of inspections are for people operating a business within a lot, parking a boat, trailer, motorhome or commercial vehicle in homeowner’s driveway and political flags for signs outside of the election period. A complete description of the violations that can incur fines, if not corrected, can be found in the Carolina Shores POA Declaration of Restrictions, Section 6 and the Rules & Regulations.

Regulations are addressed by the CSPOA, Town of Carolina Shores or utilities companies depending on the issue being inspected. The Town of Carolina Shores is responsible for street repair, storm water control, and drainage issues in all Carolina Shores neighborhoods. Specific issues related to utilities, such as water and sewer, and electricity will be addressed with the utility companies. Law enforcement or legal avenues are the path to settle trespassing, property boundary disputes, personal and domestic disputes. CSPOA has no authority in these areas.

All requests for inspections must be initiated by completing in writing the CSPOA form that includes the name, address, and phone number of the person submitting the request. Please note that all information pertaining to the initiator of the violation inspection will remain confidential.

If a violation exists, coupled with a failure to correct the violation, the homeowner will be fined by the CSPOA board. Homeowners are given seven (7) days to reply to any written notification of a violation.

Book Discussion Group – Susie Riggs

Stack of booksCarolina Shores Book Group members enjoyed an insightful discussion and a delightful pot-luck luncheon at our meeting on January 19. Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng is “a poignant dystopian novel that delves into many social issues while exploring the enduring love a mother has for her child”. While some of us found the novel difficult to read, we all felt that the story is relevant in today’s world.

Next month’s reading selection is The Light Pirate by Lily Brooks-Dalton. Our meeting will be held on Friday, February 16 at 10:00 a.m. in the large meeting room in the POA clubhouse.

Garden Club – Mary Conover

A close-up of a garden

Description automatically generatedOur January meeting was well attended, as we learned more about local grasses, disease and maintenance with Taylor McDaniel, Horticulture Extension Agent.

There will be no regular meeting in February as we will be raising funds for West Brunswick High School Seniors' scholarships at a Paint Party on Friday, February 16, from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Instructions will be given by Bonnie McGiver, President of the Waterway Art Association. Members and guests will create a framed painting of a beach bike with a basket of flowers. The cost of $35 covers all materials and snacks. Bring what you'd like to drink, and contact Kirsten Forehand at 540-607-2590, or Happy Mullen at 240-354-4290 if you'd like to participate. In addition to the painting, we will have baskets full of goodies for our silent auction, a 50/50 raffle, as well as tickets for a handmade quilt by our own Quilt Guild.

New members are always welcome at the Garden Club. The meetings are the second Wednesday of each month. The annual dues are $10, and we meet from September to May. Meetings usually include a guest speaker, a plant raffle and a social hour. Please contact Mary Conover, President, at 703-409-9612 with any questions.

Care Team – Flo Pflaster

http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/customer-care-team-d-isolated-43443409.jpgPlease be aware that as of February 1, 2024, I am discontinuing the Carolina Shores Care Team.

I have enjoyed helping many residents of our community for a long time, but it is time to end it. The list of volunteers will be deleted from the NextDoor site and from my email list.

Those residents needing a ride to their doctor's appointments should call N2N (Neighbor to Neighbor) at 843-839-0702 or go to the website (n2ncarolina.org). For information and to sign up for future needs, go to the website and click on “get involved” and then “be served” to fill out the form. They offer free rides to qualified people and have volunteers available to help.

Thank you to all the volunteers who have helped your neighbors. It has been greatly appreciated.
